There is a growing international movement of boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against the Israeli occupation. What will it take to implement BDS in Philadelphia? Join us for a panel discussion and conversation:

  • Why divest? What is the divestment movement?
  • Temple University Divestment Campaign
  • Presbyterian Church Divestment initative
Thursday, April 12, 7pm
International House, 2nd Floor
3701 Chestnut Street

Hosted by Philadelphia SUSTAIN! [Stop U.S. Tax Aid to Israel Now!]

The U.S. government and U.S. taxpayers are complicit in the illegal occupation of Palestine through billions of dollars of tax-funded aid to Israel every year. Furthermore, our cities and schools invest in companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin that supply weapons to the Israeli military as part of aid packages.

There is a growing international movement to resist Israeli human rights violations through economic and political pressure. On July 9, 2005, over 150 Palestinian political parties, unions, associations, coalitions and organizations issued a call to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era.

The movement to divest from Israel has been building through student and community organizations in Philadelphia since this call was issued. This discussion will work to unite our efforts and strategize about Philadelphia's role and participation in the International Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement.
